The University of Maine at Orono could eliminate up to 100 positions next year as the school works to cut more than $8.8 million from its fiscal year 2010 budget, which begins July 1.
Some of the jobs are already vacant, including 20 positions eliminated when the Cutler Health Center was privatized, but 20 more currently filled jobs will be cut, Janet Waldron, UMaine’s vice president for administration and finance, said Thursday at the first of two public budget information sessions, the Bangor Daily News reported.
The university employs about 2,500 people.
