High Peaks Alliance recently welcomed more than 60 supporters, community members, sponsors and friends for a dedication ceremony celebrating the newly christened Bernard and Jean Kinney Family Forest in Farmington.
Located near downtown Farmington, the 199 acres are home to the 45-foot Mosher Hill Falls, touted as one of the region’s most impressive waterfalls. Beyond the falls, the property protects clean water sources and wildlife habitat, along with a trail that’s open year-round.
Stephen Kinney sold the property to the High Peaks Alliance and then made a donation to name the forest in honor of his parents. Four generations of the family attended the dedication event.
High Peaks Alliance invites the public to explore the forest from the trailhead at 727 Mosher Hill Road and to stay tuned for upcoming educational programs.
The alliance is a nonprofit conservation organization working to protect the mountains, forests, waters and rural character of Maine’s high peaks through land conservation, stewardship and community engagement.
