2025 Book of Lists reflects a new wave of leaders

One of the defining trends of the past year has been the widespread turnover of top leaders in Maine, at businesses, professional services firms, health care institutions, universities and nonprofits.

You’ll see new names on the lists in this issue. This was a shift we started to see during the pandemic. It’s part of the wider retirement of baby boomers, but we also saw plenty of leaders shifting between organizations. And a number of leaders decided to step away from top management posts to take a breather and figure out what’s next.

Kudos

A few shout-outs are in order:

Stephanie Meagher and Heide Martin, the research team at New England Business Media, compile these lists throughout the year. Most run in special focus issues. Steph also keeps an eagle eye out for changes throughout the year, so the lists can be updated for the Book of Lists.

This year’s lively mix of cover images comes from Jim Neuger, a Cape Elizabeth-based photographer. The images are a mix of photos he’s taken on assignment for Mainebiz — at Maine’s agricultural fairs, Hadlock Field (home of the Portland Sea Dogs), Portland International Airport, retail areas and construction sites.

Mainebiz Art Director Matt Selva is known for making the Book of Lists look good. But a lot of people may not know he’s also a stellar organization man. Like an airline pilot, train conductor or radio “traffic manager,” he keeps us on deadline and on time.

Thanks, too, to the entire Mainebiz team for making this happen. We’ve also had some changes in personnel this year, and so kudos to Publisher Andrea Tetzlaff for keeping the ship moving in the right direction.
