$218M lottery sales set record

Maine lottery sales appear to have set a record, bringing in about $218 million for the budget year that ended June 30, according to preliminary figures.

Lottery Director Dan Gwadosky told Capitol News Service the year’s lottery sales will add more than $50 million in net revenues to the state’s coffers. Sales of online tickets for MegaMillions, Megabucks, PowerBall, and the Pick-3 and Pick-4 games increased 12.3% this year. After twice opposing adding MegaMillions tickets in Maine, the Legislature reversed itself this past year, making Maine the last New England state to offer MegaMillions.
