A Cumberland County locale tops ‘Hottest Towns in Maine’ list

This year’s “Hottest Towns in Maine” list is topped by Standish, which saw a 40.7% bump in home sales in 2025.

The Cumberland County town, which has a population of 10,244, is home to St. Joseph’s College of Maine, whose campus overlooks Sebago Lake.

The list, compiled by Maine Life Real Estate based on data from Maine Real Estate Information Services Inc., is now in its ninth year.

Last year, Hampden in Penobscot County topped the list. And two years ago, the Oxford County town of Bethel held the top spot.

This year’s top five is rounded out by Gray, Westbrook, Falmouth and Augusta, each of which showed “impressive [sales] gains despite broader market shifts.”

“These numbers reflect something deeper than just transactions,” said Rob Edgerley, broker and founder of Maine Life Real Estate. “They reflect people choosing Maine for its lifestyle, affordability and vibrant communities.”

  3. Westbrook: 25.6%
  4. Falmouth: 21.4%
  5. Augusta: 20.7%
  6. Rockland: 19.5%
  7. Biddeford: 18.5%
  8. Cumberland: 15.3%
  9. Yarmouth: 15.2%
  10. South Portland: 14.9%

Now in its ninth year, the “Hottest Towns” report analyzes statewide residential real estate data provided by the Multiple Listing Service, operated by Maine Real Estate Information Services Inc. Rankings are based on year-over-year growth in units sold, with attention to pricing trends and market conditions.
