Developers Collaborative is on target to complete its 54-unit affordable housing complex for seniors in downtown Portland by June.
The five-story apartment building, at 25 Casco St., broke ground last winter, on a former parking lot between Cumberland Avenue and Congress Street.
Equality Commons will offer apartments ranging in size from 501 square feet to 837. There will be 12 studios, 34 one-bedroom units and eight two-bedroom units.
Nineteen of the units will be fully accessible.
Sixty percent of the apartments will be offered to households earning 50% or less of the area median income. The remainder will be reserved for households earning 60% AMI or less. Additionally, MaineHousing will provide vouchers for 11 residents with special needs.
Applications for residency are now open and are being managed by the Portland Housing Authority.
The complex will include a community room, laundry facilities, bike storage, and broadband. Electrical infrastructure will support future connections to electric vehicle chargers as well as potential rooftop solar.
Developers Collaborative is based in Portland and owned by Kevin Bunker and Laura Reading. The company develops a wide range of projects around the state, from affordable to market rate and senior housing, commercial builds and historic redevelopment.
Portland-based Ryan Senatore Architecture is the project designer. Falmouth-based Penobscot General Contractors is Equality Commons’ builder. The complex is slated to open to residents this coming summer.
