Elizabeth Isele of North Yarmouth was named one of the country’s “50 Top Influencers in Aging” by Next Avenue, a Public Broadcasting Service website geared toward America’s older population, for her work in forging working relationships between older and younger generations.
The Forecaster reported that Isele has worked with U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on initiatives to improve the culture of retirement and aging, with an eye towards successful economic, environmental and social impacts.
In 1998, Isele started cyberseniors.org, a computer-learning workshop series, in Portland. Collins, then-Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, and Microsoft helped it expand to train 28,000 seniors around the world over the next five years.
She founded the Global Institute for Experienced Entrepreneurship three years ago. Isele told the paper the initiatives help older people learn new technologies and younger gain business experience.
“We approach it from the economic perspective,” she told the newspaper.
