The House last week passed an appropriations bill that includes $4.5 million in funding for wood utilization research at the University of Maine.
The funding is included in the Agriculture Appropriations Act and promotes research into new technologies that could maintain a domestic forest products industry, according to a press release from Rep. Mike Michaud’s office.
Also included in the appropriations bill is $173,000 for the University of Maine to study sustainable production and processing of Maine lowbush blueberries and $280,000 for University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s potato integrated pest management system.
