Avesta Housing is refurbishing a 40-unit affordable apartment complex in Sanford known as Patriot Place.
The $9.6 million renovation is being managed by Scarborough-based Allied Cook Construction.
Located at 24 Patriots Lane, the 40-year-old development has been owned by Portland-based Avesta Housing since 2006.
The complex consists of three garden-style apartment buildings, designed for both individuals and families.
“We are modernizing the property through targeted accessibility upgrades, improvement of energy-efficiency and building systems to enhance performance and long-term operating stability,” Avesta spokesman Rod Harmon said. “We’re also adding an on-site office space to better support property management and resident services.”
In most cases, Harmon said the renovations are not requiring residents to be relocated.
Portland’s RDS Architects is handling design details.
The project is expected to be completed this fall.
