Allstate is closing its claim processing center in South Portland, the effect of a companywide effort to consolidate claims processing in Pennsylvania.
About 55 employees will be laid off at the end of July, some of whom will be offered transfers to Allstate’s claim centers in Connecticut or Pennsylvania, reported the Portland Press Herald.
An Allstate spokesman told the paper the closure would not affect local field adjusters who conduct physical inspections of automobiles, nor the company’s drive-in facility in South Portland.
