The rearranging of Portland’s furniture market is set to continue, with Hub Furniture Co. announcing plans to consolidate two stores into one.
In a mailing to customers, Hub said it plans to close its Westbrook store, located at 900 Main St., and consolidate operations into its downtown Portland location, at 291 Fore St. The retail operation, which dates to 1913, is family-owned.
The flagship store in Portland is 50,000 square feet spread over five floors, according to the company’s website.
Before the consolidation, Hub said it will liquidate some $5 million worth of inventory from the Westbrook site, starting Thursday, Feb. 5, for people holding the flyer.
Retail transitions
In recent days, Youngs Furniture, at 1 Diamond St. in Portland, said it will liquidate its stock and retire after 95 years in business.
But the Portland area will also gain a furniture retailer, with Ashley joining a shopping center in South Portland.
