Operational overview

Headquartered in Lewiston, Maine, Androscoggin Bank has remained proudly independent for 155 years. Since 1870, the bank has focused on empowering Maine’s people, businesses and communities to thrive. In 2021, Androscoggin became a Certified B Corporation™, joining a select group of banks nationwide that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability.

How do your values show up in day-to-day business decisions?

At Androscoggin Bank, values are not slogans—they’re operational principles. Every decision is made locally and through a multi-stakeholder lens, which means the interests of clients, colleagues, and communities are weighed equally. This human-first approach ensures that profitability and purpose remain aligned. Whether approving a loan, designing a new product, or setting strategic priorities, the question is always the same: Does this create shared value for everyone?

How do you engage employees in community involvement, volunteerism, or purpose-driven initiatives?

Service is part of Androscoggin Bank’s DNA. Through its Greater Giving Days initiative, employees are encouraged to step outside the office and make a hands-on difference in the communities where they live and work. Each employee receives 24 hours of paid volunteer time annually, and in 2025 alone, team members contributed more than 5,800 volunteer hours across 170 organizations, with over 78% of employees participating.

Whether it’s supporting food security, financial literacy, or housing initiatives, the bank empowers employees to pursue the causes that matter most to them. The result is a workforce deeply connected to the bank’s mission and to the people it serves every day.

How does your company support or partner with local nonprofits, schools, or community organizations?

Androscoggin Bank’s commitment to community impact is most visible through its Empowering Partners Program. The bank has selected seven nonprofit organizations for multi-year partnerships that go far beyond financial contributions. The bank provides flexible funding—trusting partners to allocate resources where they’re most needed—while also offering banking expertise, technology support, and volunteer engagement to strengthen long-term capacity.

Current Empowering Partners include ProsperityME, Safe Voices, Trinity Jubilee Center, Tree Street Youth, New Beginnings, In Her Presence, and Maine Inside Out. Together, these organizations address critical needs such as financial education, domestic violence prevention, youth empowerment, and immigrant integration. By aligning expertise and resources with community leaders, Androscoggin Bank helps scale solutions that make Maine stronger and more equitable.

Are there sustainability or environmental practices your company has implemented that you’re particularly proud of?

Androscoggin Bank’s sustainability strategy extends beyond environmental responsibility to also encompass social and financial sustainability. Its Sustainable Impact Program directs client deposits toward Maine-based lending projects that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including clean water, reduced inequality and economic growth. By intentionally reinvesting capital into projects that build a more resilient and equitable Maine, the program demonstrates how everyday banking can have a measurable impact.

Equally innovative is the bank’s Islamic mortgage alternative, which allows Muslim families in Maine to access home financing consistent with their faith. This initiative—one of the first of its kind in northern New England—underscores that true sustainability includes shared prosperity.

And of course, the bank strives to be leaders in environmental sustainability. This is highlighted by the fact that it uses 100% renewable energy across all of its operations and has a dedicated environmental stewardship team.

Through all of these efforts, Androscoggin Bank continues to redefine how banking can be a force for good.
