“Lewiston remains the heart of Androscoggin Bank, and this move reflects our commitment to serving the community more efficiently and sustainably for years to come,” said a spokeswoman.
Androscoggin Bank confirmed plans to close a branch at 30 Lisbon St. in Lewiston — one of two branches in Maine's second-largest city, where the bank is based — while emphasizing its long-term commitment to the community.
The closure, planned for April 30, was notified to Maine’s Bureau of Financial Institutions, which is accepting written comments on the plan through March 11.
Androscoggin Bank CEO Neil Kiely referred questions to a bank spokeswoman.
In an emailed response, the spokeswoman said that the bank will keep its other Lewiston branch open at 505 Sabattus St., along with its Auburn branch at 683 Minot Ave. Both locales offer longer hours and Saturday hours that the Lisbon Street branch did not offer.
“After exploring numerous options of how to re-use the vacant space over the last year at our 30 Lisbon St. location,” she said, “we concluded that rather than maintaining an underutilized space, the best option was to close this location so we can continue investing in service, technology, and staff to better serve our clients.
“By expanding our presence within Bates Mill No. 6 and investing in upgraded space there, we’ve actually increased our overall footprint in Lewiston while improving how our internal teams work together.”
The spokeswoman said that there were no staff reductions as a result of the closure.
“Lewiston remains the heart of Androscoggin Bank, and this move reflects our commitment to serving the community more efficiently and sustainably for years to come,” she added.
With $1.76 million in assets as of June 30, 2025, Androscoggin Bank is ranked No. 11 among the largest Maine-based banks in the 2026 Mainebiz Book of Lists.
Besides Lewiston and Auburn, Androscoggin Bank has branches on the ground in Brunswick, Gray, Guilford, Jay, Lisbon Falls, Portland, South Paris, Turner and Portsmouth, N.H., according to the bank's website.
