Aroostook Regional Transportation System promotes interim leader to permanent role

Aroostook Regional Transportation System said it has named Lisa Smith the organization’s executive director, promoting her from an interim role she’s held.

Smith succeeds Cyr Martin, who left the nonprofit on March 9 after two years.

As executive director, Smith said she plans to build on the organization’s partnerships, raise awareness of available transportation resources and find ways to expand services.

“What I appreciate most about ARTS is the people,” said Smith. “We have an incredibly dedicated and compassionate staff who go above and beyond every day for the people we serve. Transportation can be a significant barrier in rural Aroostook County, and I am proud to be part of an organization that works every day to find solutions and help people remain healthy, independent and connected.”

Smith joined ARTS in 2022 as mobility manager and most recently served as interim director. She has worked to expand awareness of the ARTS services and strengthen relationships with community organizations, health care providers, employers and other regional partners.

She has also led compliance initiatives with the Maine Department of Transportation and secured grant funding to support several key ARTS programs and priorities, including Cancer Transportation, the Aroostook Workforce Connector and staff and driver training.
