Scott & Jon’s, an Auburn-based maker of frozen seafood meals, has expanded its national reach through a regional distribution deal with the Food Lion supermarket chain. The deal puts four products in more than 1,000 stores across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
The products — Shrimp Alfredo, Cajun-Style Shrimp Alfredo, Creamy Herb Pasta with Salmon and Baja Fish Taco Bowls — are now available in Food Lion's frozen section and through the retailer's online pickup and delivery service. Â
Food Lion, headquartered in Salisbury, N.C., shares a corporate parent with Hannaford, the Scarborough-based grocery chain. Both operate as part of Ahold USA, the U.S. division of Dutch-Belgian multinational food retailer Ahold Delhaize.
"Expanding into Food Lion is an exciting milestone for Scott & Jon's and an important step in making seafood more accessible to consumers," said Scott Demers, co-founder and co-CEO of Scott & Jon's. "Food Lion shares our commitment to delivering great value without compromising on quality. We're excited to introduce Scott & Jon's to more shoppers across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic and give them an easy, delicious way to enjoy more seafood."
Demers and his brother, Jon Demers, who grew up working in their family’s catering business and restaurant, launched their business in 2011 as the Cheating Gourmet and rebranded as Scott & Jon's in 2019.
The company initially developed frozen seafood appetizers before shifting its focus to frozen seafood meals. Today, Scott & Jon's offers single-serve frozen meals featuring seafood, sauces and other ingredients designed for easy preparation at home. The company is staffed by 20 employees.
Sales grew 15% in the 52 weeks through July 12, far outpacing the broader single-meal frozen category, which declined 1%, according to Scott & Jon’s, citing data from Spins, a Chicago-based market research company.
