A municipal airport in Augusta has received $100,000 in federal funds to attract more passengers.
The Augusta State Airport plans to use the grant to double its ridership from 5,000 passengers a year to 10,000, a threshold that would put the airport in the running to receive up to $1 million in additional funds, according to the Kennebec Journal. The grant, from the U.S. Department of Transportation, will fund market research and a marketing campaign to boost ridership at the state-owned, city-run airport.
The Augusta State Airport was one of 19 grants totaling $6.4 million awarded through the DOT’s Small Community Air Service Development Program, according to the paper.
