Avesta Housing

Yes, you’ve heard of us. We’re the largest nonprofit provider of affordable housing in Northern New England. We’ve been making our communities stronger for over 50 years.

Our mission:

Avesta improves lives and strengthens communities by promoting and providing quality affordable homes for people in need.

Did someone say need?

MAINE needs 38,500 homes right now and will need another 37,900 to 45,800 homes by 2030.

Let’s join forces with our skills, passions and generosity to make lasting, effective change for individuals, families, and our communities – for the next 50 years.

2025 Goals

These are the priorities that move us forward:

  • To increase and preserve the housing supply and accelerate the creation of new affordable homes

  • To promote housing access and stability for residents to succeed with dignity

  • To be an exceptional place to work because our mission starts from within

  • To advance diversity, equity, and inclusion to model our mission rooted in social justice

  • To promote climate resiliency, sustainability, and equity

Giving Opportunities

We invite everyone to address the housing crisis with us through philanthropy.

  • Gifts to Continue Building Quality Homes: Support the creation of more housing for aging adults, for Maine’s workforce, for rural residents, and to fulfill site-based Housing First needs.

  • Land Donations: Help set the foundation for a vibrant community and make affordable housing a reality more quickly.

  • Support for Resident Services: Promote housing stability by connecting residents to community resources.

  • Commitment to Renewable Energy: Help Avesta mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
