Avesta Housing is seeking approvals for a 33-unit affordable apartment building on outer Forest Ave. in Portland, designed to provide homes for individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness.
The 28,700-square-foot building is planned on the site of the now vacant Tortilla Flats restaurant at 1871 Forest Ave., and will consist of all studio apartments. The dwellings are intended for households with incomes up to 30% of the area’s mean income. For one individual, that totals $27,300.
The $20 million, four-story project is designed by Portland’s Simons Architects. Wright-Ryan Construction, also based in Portland, will manage the build. Acorn Engineering is also on the team and is based in Portland.
Preble Street, headquartered in the city, is designated to provide support services to residents of the building.
Avesta brought the proposal before the city planning board on May 12, but the board took no votes. The project is scheduled for a second review on June 9, which may include a public hearing.
