Hollywood Casino in Bangor has been denied its request for a tax break, though the gambling operation will now have a chance to appeal.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Bangor City Assessor Phil Drew denied the casino’s request to reduce its property tax assessment by $36.8 million. In his response to Hollywood Casino’s request, Drew said it failed to prove that his assessment was “manifestly wrong.”
Hollywood Casino’s 2014 property tax assessment was $91.18 million, but the gambling operation is arguing that it should be $61.38 million. It will now have 60 days to appeal the city’s decision. If ultimately approved, the casino would be refunded $876,840.
