Construction of a large addition to the Biddeford Primary School, underway since September 2024, is expected to be wrapped up this spring.
Gorham-based Great Falls Construction is the general contractor for the project. Mobile Studio Design, of Biddeford, handled design.
The 22,600-square-foot addition, at 320 Hill St., will add 16 classrooms and consolidate grades pre-K through 2 into one building.
The district retired the 70-year-old John F. Kennedy Memorial School last spring after a 2022 assessment determined that renovating the building would cost up to $16 million. Project cost for the addition to the Primary School is $9 million; funded through a voter-approved bond.
The modern addition will expand classroom capacity and improve access to specialized resources.
The future use of the JFK building is being considered by the Biddeford City Council.
