U.S. officials plan to announce today $150 million in federal funding for Maine’s biomass industry.
Federal officials are scheduled to announce the release of funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Biomass Crop Assistance Program in Maine, according to news channel WCSH 6. Donovan Todd III, the state’s Farm Service Agency director, told the news channel the grants will strengthen the forest products industry and help reduce the state’s dependence on foreign oil.
The number of approved biomass facilities in Maine is second in the nation, according to Todd.
