The Navy has awarded Bath Iron Works $114 million for work on a destroyer in the restarted DDG-51 program.
The contract is for materials to build a new ship in the DDG-51 line, according to The Times Record. BIW has been the lead shipbuilder in DDG-51, the Aegis class of destroyers, since its inception 20 years ago, but shifted work to the new DDG-1000 class after the DDG-51 class was scheduled to end. However, the Department of Defense announced last year the Aegis destroyers would be restarted. BIW is slated to build all three ships in the DDG-1000 line and then return to work on the DDG-51 line.
Earlier this month, BIW won nearly $8 million in additional work on the DDG-1000 class.
