Bath Iron Works is helping one of its competitors complete a Navy warship.
Northrop Grumman Corp., a defense contractor in Mississippi, yesterday said it has hired BIW as a subcontractor to complete sections of a transport dock ship it is building for the Navy. Bill Glenn, a spokesman for Northrop Grumman, would not disclose the terms of the deal.
The contract, which starts this month and lasts for a year, will provide work at BIW until the shipyard begins working on its next project, the DDG 1000 destroyer, according to the Portland Press Herald.
