Bath Iron Works has reached a settlement with a former worker who sued the shipyard over allegations that it was enabling an “anti-Muslim culture.”
The Bangor Daily News reported that the federal lawsuit by Husam Abed of Portland was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount of money. Abed’s lawsuit, which was moved to federal court in Maine in January, sought $75,000 in damages.
In the lawsuit, Abed had claimed that he was subjected to “severe discrimination and harassment based solely on his religion, race and national origin.” He said that included an Afghan flag given to the shipyard that was “decimated with hate graffiti.”
