Vessel Services Inc., in Portland, is suing its former bookkeeper, saying she stole nearly $400,000 from the company over the last four years.
Vessel Services, which sells fuel and ice to fishermen, recently filed suit against Rhonda Coppersmith in Cumberland County Superior Court and is seeking compensation and punitive damages, the Portland Press Herald reported today.
Coppersmith’s lawyer told the company’s president, Edward Bradley, about the embezzlement two weeks ago, leading Bradley to fire her and then file suit, the paper said.
