Poland Spring yesterday opened its third bottling plant in Maine, a new $60 million facility in Kingfield.
The plant is producing approximately 18,000 cases of water daily, but starting next month, employees will work around the clock seven days a week boosting production to 50,000 cases, according to the Sun Journal in Lewiston. The water is piped from springs about four and a half miles away.
The LEED-certified facility currently employees about 40 people, but that is expected to increase to 50 full-time positions with part-time help added during the summer. Poland Spring, a subsidiary of Nestles Water North America Inc., employs about 800 people in Maine.
