Great Falls Construction has begun renovations and expansion of the Mabel I. Wilson school in Cumberland, along with construction of a new building for the district’s youngest students.
The $35 million project includes a 76,700-square-foot facility for pre-k, kindergarten and first graders and renovations to the existing elementary school, which will include the addition of four classrooms.
The projects were approved by voters in June 2024 as part of a $53.5 million bond which included construction of a $3 million turf field for the high school.
The Mabel I. Wilson school serves students from grades pre-k through fourth from North Yarmouth and Cumberland. Enrollment exceeded the 550-student capacity in 2015 and the school has been using modular classrooms.
The new building is being constructed on a 2.3-acre lot adjacent to the SAD51 campus off Tuttle Road in Cumberland. It’s expected to have a capacity of 550 students when completed in June 2027.
North Yarmouth-based A.H. Grover Inc. is managing site work and Stephen Blatt Architects, based in Portland, is the design team.

- Bridgton-based Main Eco Homes is building a 65-room boutique hotel in town, slated to open summer 2026. The 42,296-square-foot Hotel Bridgton incorporates natural materials and sustainable construction practices, including solar panels. It is being developed in partnership with Portland-based Olympia Hospitality. Additional partners include Norway Savings Bank and Kennebec Savings Bank, Portland-based Barba + Wheelock Architects and the Architectural Team, headquartered in Chelsea, Mass.
- Augusta-based Lajoie Bros. Construction is building a 38,000-square-foot addition for Goodwin Chevrolet Mazda at 195 Pleasant Ave./ U.S. Route 1 in Brunswick. The project includes teams from Sebago Technics, of South Portland; Trillium Engineering Group, of Yarmouth; and CWS Architecture + Interior Design, of Scarborough.

Avesta Housing has added 26 affordable senior apartments in Gray, with the opening of the 22,000-square-foot Meadowview II. The $9.8 million development features sustainable design to reduce energy costs. The project team included South Portland-based Optimum Construction, Portsmouth, N.H.-based JSA Design architects and civil engineer Pinchin Consulting LLC’s Portland office.
- LB Development Partners, Dexterous Creative Architects and Hardypond Construction have undertaken a $2.6 million renovation of historic Hope House at 14 Sherman St. in Portland, which provides asylum seekers with temporary housing and transitional services. The 120-year-old building will undergo major upgrades, including updated HVAC and a modern fire suppression system.
