Harbor Builders Associates, which is based in St. George and owned by Chip Bauer, is building the $1.2 million addition for Area Interfaith Outreach in Rockland, a 3,800-square-foot site. It is on track to open this summer. AIO Food and Energy Assistance supports more than 4,265 households (11,000 individuals) with food, and it works with local utilities to provide energy assistance support to over 600 households in 18 municipalities in the county. It is still raising money for the project and was helped recently by a $10,000 grant from Camden National Bank.

“We’re grateful for the generous support from our neighbors at Camden National Bank and our incredible community of donors,” said Liz Jenkins, AIO’s board president. “AIO is a vital and growing part of the web of services that holds our community together, and we can’t do it without working hand-in-hand with local organizations, public and private.”

News from around the construction industry

Well into the pandemic, construction companies are working safely but still pushing to keep projects on a timeline — and continuing to look for workers.

One example is Fairfield-based Sheridan Construction, which has been advertising for supervisors, carpenters, form carpenters, roofers and laborers.

Landry/French Construction, which is based in Scarborough, continues its recent trend of building public buildings, this time in Yarmouth. It has the contract to build a new, $8.5 million fire station, which will include EMT facilities. Elsewhere, Landry/French has built public works facilities in Scarborough and Wells.

Ledgewood Construction, which is based in South Portland, is coming down the home stretch on the $6.6 million Falmouth Public Library expansion. Scott Simons was the architect on the project. It’s set to open in late spring.

Hardypond Construction, which is based in Portland, is building a new gym at Lyseth Elementary School in Portland.

Avesta Housing, the Portland nonprofit, has added Avesta Housing appoints board of directors officers and new board members Tony Cipollone, president and CEO of the John T. Gorman Foundation, as chair; Jonathan Culley, Redfern Properties, as vice chair; Janice deLima, community reinvestment officer at Norway Savings, as vice president; Kimberly Twitchell, Maine regional president and NBT Bank, secretary. Other new board members are Peter Pitegoff, professor of law, University of Maine School of Law; Arthur Sabiti, executive director of the Intercultural Community Center; and Amy Smith, founder and president of Healthy Homeworks.
