Bunker Brewing opens this week in new Portland HQ

The popular Portland-based craft beer brewery Bunker Brewing Co. is set to unveil its new brewery and tasting room in the city’s Libbytown neighborhood on Friday.

The Bangor Daily News got an inside look at the new 9,000-square-foot space, at 17 Westfield St., where part owner and head brewer Chresten Sorenson was more than happy to show off the former warehouse that has been outfitted with brewing tanks. Its larger brewing capacity will allow Bunker to triple production from its Anderson Street location. It hopes to expand its reach statewide and possibly to New York and Massachusetts.

The added brewing capacity will also allow Sorenson to test the waters with out-of-the-ordinary brews and partnerships with local eateries for custom beers, according to the BDN.

“We can do one-off seasonals and kookie stuff,” Sorenson told the BDN. “We have a lot of freedom now.”

In early October, the BDN reported that Bunker would be moving to its new Libbytown location and that its East Bayside neighbor Tandem Coffee Roasters would be moving into the former Bunker location to expand its wholesale operations.
