The owner of a construction company who recently bought a railroad car that once served as a restaurant now has set his sights on buying an island for restaurant seating.
Captain Nick’s, a popular seafood restaurant on Union Street in Bangor, closed its doors last summer. Michael Thornton of Milford acquired the railroad car that once served as part the restaurant to use for an eatery in the city.
Now Thornton is seeking to buy nearby Edging & Drift Island in the Penobscot River for seasonal outdoor seating, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Thornton, owner of Thornton Construction Inc., is offering the city of Old Town $10,000 for the island, he told the paper.
Thornton owns land adjacent to the island, where he got a permit to build a restaurant.
“Almost everyone’s eaten in that railway car,” he said.
