Camden fires up first municipal solar array

Camden’s first municipal solar array was switched on Jan. 3.

The PenBay Pilot  reported the array is expected to offset about 7% of the town’s annual energy use. The ground-mounted array, installed by ReVision Energy, consists of 351 solar panels and is on municipally owned land.

Camden signed a Power Purchase Agreement financial structure with ReVision that required no upfront investment from the town. Instead, Camden pays ReVision monthly on the array and its electricity at a rate comparable to the rate Central Maine Power Co. charged in 2017.

Camden is expected to experience energy savings of almost 1.5 cents per kWh in 2018, and more than $2,000 over the course of the year.
