Voters in Camden yesterday passed several zoning changes around the harbor, including one that will let Wayfarer Marine build condos on the waterfront.
Voters approved Wayfarer’s request to zone some of its waterfront land for residential development, rather than for marine use, according to the Bangor Daily News. Voters rejected a similar request last November. Wayfarer has said revenue from condo sales would fund upgrades at its boatbuilding facilities.
In addition, the town’s select board got approval to sell the former Apollo Tannery site in town, so long as the buyer meets certain requirements, such as creating new jobs, the paper said. Camden took ownership of the tannery site several years ago because the former owner didn’t pay property taxes.
