The Canadian government has decided to seek fair market value in selling a Bar Harbor ferry terminal that it purchased from the state for $1 in 1985.
The Mount Desert Islander reported local and state officials had hoped to re-acquire the ferry terminal that has sat idle since 2009 for a nominal fee.
John Henshaw, director of the Maine Port Authority, told the paper that the decision by the Canadian government to seek millions for the ferry terminal is not necessarily a deal-breaker.
The paper reported that Bar Harbor and state officials began seeking ownership of the pier after a study completed last year that showed a cruise pier, even at an estimated price tag of $16.7 million, could be profitable.
