Crystal Canney, spokeswoman for U.S. Sen. Angus King, said she is stepping down next month to return to the private sector for a “new business partnership” she will announce in January.
The Portland Press Herald reported that Canney declined to elaborate on her private sector plans with the announcement of her resignation Wednesday.
Before taking on the lead communications role for Angus King’s successful U.S. Senate bid last year, Canney ran the Portland-based Canney Communications and had worked as a spokeswoman for former Gov. John Baldacci and as an assistant commissioner in that administration.
In a prepared statement, King praised Canney’s work for his office and said she will remain “a trusted advisor.”
