Cape Elizabeth road getting partial spring makeover

As the spring construction season moves into high gear, two sections of Route 77 in Cape Elizabeth will undergo resurfacing over the next two months in a $997,000 makeover.

Gorham-based Shaw Brothers Construction, one of southern Maine’s largest earthwork contractors, will manage the project for the Maine Department of Transportation. The work, which starts today, includes pavement resurfacing and drainage improvements.

Motorists should expect one-way alternating traffic through the project area, with signs posted and flaggers on site to direct vehicles.

The work zone extends from the intersection of Old Ocean House Road and Route 77 to the intersection of Route 77 and Spurwink Avenue. That could cause traffic delays for motorists going and from Crescent Beach, Two Lights State Park and the Inn by the Sea.

The project is expected to wrap up in July, well before this year’s annual TD Beach to Beacon 10K road race that draws thousands of participants from around the world.
