A $6.2 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development will enable Casa Inc. to fund a new 20-bed long-term intermediate care facility in Scarborough.
The Portland-based nonprofit provides home support for people with developmental disabilities throughout Cumberland and York counties. The new facility will replace an older 16-bed operation on the same site and create room for additional parking.
Casa’s Intermediate Care Facility for Mental Retardation will offer 24-hour nursing services, according to a press release from Casa.
Founded in 1979, Casa opened its first, eight-bed intermediate care facility in 1982. In addition to running a number of residential care facilities, the nonprofit also provides in-home support services, private duty nursing and cognitive therapy.
