After a $20 million investment in a new wood fuel technology, Cate Street Capital’s Thermogen Industries LLC began hiring this week for the first stages of construction on a new Millinocket facility to produce torrefied wood.
Foundation work at a new facility scheduled to begin this fall, according to a press release, and the plant is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.
The company plans to make the torrefied wood pellets — also known as “biocoal” — in Millinocket and transport them by rail to Searsport, where they will be shipped overseas to be used as a fuel source.
For the preliminary construction, the company is looking to hire around 10 employees and expects that the plant will employ 25-full-time workers when finished next year. Hiring for the first phases of construction to begin this fall is being handled by the Conti Group.
