Maine ranks first in paper manufacturing and telephone call centers in sales per capita, according to a report released yesterday from the federal Census Bureau.
The state also ranks first in sales per capita in a dozen other categories, including RV parks and services for the elderly and the disabled. The Census Bureau conducts its economic census every five years — the latest results are from data gathered in 2002, and the bureau gathered data for the next study last year, in 2007, according to a press release.
The data is culled from financial information provided by businesses around the country. Businesses that receive forms from the bureau are required by law to respond. To check out how Maine ranked, click here.
