Four Maine food producers are among the finalists in the 2019 Good Food Awards competition sponsored by the Good Food Foundation.
The San Francisco-based nonprofit selected 401 products representing 40 states from the 2,035 entries submitted to its ninth annual Good Food Awards competition.
After a completely blind tasting in September, the announced finalists are the five highest scoring entrants in each category from each region of the country – North, South, East, West and Central. Of these, three in each region become the winners.
All companies that score well on taste undergo a rigorous vetting process to ensure they meet the Good Food Awards standards before being named finalists or winners, the foundation stated on its website.
Here are the Maine finalists:
- Beer — Liquid Riot Bottling Co. in Portland for its Blushing Star Barrel-Aged Lager.
- Charcuterie — A Small Good in Rockport for its Cider Brined Coppa.
- Cider — Portersfield Cider in Pownal for its Ridlon 16/2.
- Coffee — Bard Coffee in Portland for its Organic Costa Rica La Mirella
- Spirits — Liquid Riot Bottling Co. in Portland for both its Old Port Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Fernet Michaud .
Winners will be announced on Jan. 11 at the Good Foods Awards ceremony in San Francisco.
