About 2,200 child care workers in Maine are expected to announce today whether they’ll form a union.
The workers, mostly owners of home-based child care businesses, are deciding on forming a union with the Maine State Employees Association, a local branch of the Service Employees International Union, which has over 1.9 members nationwide, according to a press release.
Organizers say a union would allow them to negotiate for affordable health insurance and provide access to more training opportunities.
