Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine

2023 Goals

In partnership with our donor community, we support access and inclusion at the Museum & Theatre, including scholarship memberships, free and reduced-price admissions, community partner events, special nights for children with disabilities, school outreach and more. Specifically, goals include:

  • Distribute over 1,000 scholarship memberships.
  • Welcome 24,000 visitors at free or reduced-price admission.
  • Host eight complimentary Community Partner Events with social service organization partners.
  • Host eight Play Your Way events for anyone who might benefit from a quieter visit to the facility.
  • Welcome over 4,500 students on school visits.
  • Visit over 30 locations for educational outreach programs.
  • Offer 12 Pay What You Can theatre performances.
  • Offer 12 theatre performances with American Sign Language interpretation.
  • Welcome 14 paid interns with learning focus areas including aquarium science, visual arts, hospitality, theatre and more.
  • Grow overall visitation by 30% and annual memberships by 15%.

Fundraising events

The Museum & Theatre’s new building on Thompson’s Point is an exceptional venue for events. We welcome facility rental inquiries for corporate events from Board meetings to private play sessions for employees and their families. Events planned for the year include:

  • After Dark at the Museum & Theatre: These festive 21+ events invite grown-up kids to explore the Museum & Theatre while enjoying food and adult beverages. Join us in October for a Halloween-themed grown-up costume party! Sponsorships are available.
  • Maddy’s Theatre Productions: Performances in Maddy’s Theatre delight audiences of all ages with family-friendly productions of new and classic stories. With six mainstage productions planned for the year – each running 30-40 shows – season- or single-production sponsorships offer unique exposure and visibility.

Giving Opportunities

At the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine, we believe that everyone belongs. Through the support of corporate partners and other funders, we are able to reach children and families regardless of their circumstances. A major piece of this work includes close collaboration with direct-service organizations – including social service agencies, homeless shelters, new Mainer community organizations and economic development offices. Our advancement team works with each donor to design a single- or multi-year partnership that creates visibility, highlights shared values with the Museum & Theatre, engages potential customers, and maximizes access and inclusion impacts. Opportunities include theatre show or educational program sponsorship in addition to support of access and inclusion work. In-kind contributions are also considered.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer roles range from weekly to event opportunities. Recurring roles include helping in our Makerspace, assisting with theatre productions, and assisting with minor building maintenance projects. Volunteers have a consistent schedule that ranges from 1.5 to 2 hours a week. Throughout the year, we have opportunities for volunteers to help with our special events. The Museum & Theatre also hosts businesses and organizations for group volunteer opportunities. There are significant benefits to volunteering at The Museum & Theatre! Recurring volunteers are eligible for a free membership after 25 hours of service, and it is a great way to connect with your community!
