Bangor’s city council has tapped Cianbro Corp. to build the new Bangor arena and convention center in Bass Park, an estimated $65 million project.
The company has already been closely involved with the project. Last year, the city contracted Pittsfield-based Cianbro to be the project’s construction manager, a $175,000 contract, according to the Bangor Daily News. Seventy-five percent of Bangor residents who voted in a May referendum approved the arena. The city’s next stop is to hire a private management firm to run the facility when it’s complete.
The city is paying for the 5,800-seat arena and adjoining convention center with revenue from gambling facility Hollywood Slots and a portion of the city’s tax increment financing district. The arena, which will hold as many as 8,050 spectators, is scheduled to be complete by late 2013.
