Central Maine Community College in Auburn is receiving $2.7 million in federal money to help train displaced workers and provide job opportunities to graduates.
U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins announced the funding through the Trade Adjustment Assistance for Community Colleges and Career Training program. Aimed at helping unemployed workers get industry certification or degrees, the program provides institutions with money to help train workers participating in the Trade Adjustment Assistance program. Trade Adjustment Assistance is offered to workers who lose their jobs as a result of foreign competition.
The senators said the money will help displaced workers get additional skills needed to re-enter the work force.
