Former Gov. John McKernan Jr. has been tapped to lead the board of Maine Community College System’s new foundation.
The Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges in January will begin raising money for capital investments, scholarships and equipment, according to Maine Public Broadcasting Network. McKernan will serve as the chair of the board, and Elizabeth Shorr, former president and CEO of the University of Southern Maine Foundation, has been hired as president.
The seven-school system is slated to lose $1.7 million in state subsidy as a result of continued budget cuts, according to MPBN.
