Community Housing of Maine has hired Kyra Walker for a return assignment, this time as executive director.
Walker previously served as chief operating officer at the nonprofit and returned earlier this year to serve as interim executive director.
She worked at the organization from 2008 to 2024, starting as an asset manager, according to her LinkedIn profile. In her previous tenure, she helped guide the growth and long-term management of the nonprofit’s housing portfolio, overseeing $175 million in residential real estate assets.

Walker steps into a role held by Cullen Ryan, who served as executive director from 2004 until February of this year.
Founded in 1993, the Portland-based nonprofit develops and manages affordable housing projects across Maine. It owns and maintains homes for more than 1,300 residents, including those who have experienced homelessness and housing instability.
Community Housing of Maine Inc. had revenue of $14.6 million in the most recent year tracked by GuideStar, according to the 2025 Mainebiz Giving Guide.
What’s ahead
Walker, who has a master’s degree in public policy and organizational management from the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Service, will focus on strengthening resident well-being, building meaningful partnerships, supporting staff, and advancing the mission of creating communities where individuals and families can thrive, the nonprofit said.
“Kyra brings an exceptional combination of housing expertise, strategic vision and people-centered leadership to this role,” said Jennifer Putnam, president of the board of directors.
“She understands affordable and supportive housing from every angle – from development and operations to long-term stewardship, resident success and community impact,” she added.
Putnam also touted Walker as a collaborative leader who works alongside staff and partners “with humility, dedication and a deep commitment to the people” served by the nonprofit.
