Back-to-school season can bring financial pressure for families purchasing backpacks, school supplies, clothing and other essentials.
Nearly 600 students in Portland, South Portland, Saco and Scarborough are expected to benefit from four local back-to-school programs supported by Town & Country Federal Credit Union. The credit union is based in Scarborough.
The programs include the Portland Police Department’s Fill a Backpack challenges, Saco Grange No. 53’s Backpack and Supply Drive, Scarborough Project GRACE’s Back to School Drive and the South Portland Police and Maine Mall Back to School Bash.
Town & Country contributed $1,000 to each program, for a total of $4,000. Supplies were distributed before the start of the school year.
“Helping our communities is at the heart of who we are at Town & Country,” said Jon Paradise, senior vice president of communications, marketing and community engagement at Town & Country.
“Whether it’s helping a family with their financial goals, supporting local nonprofits, or making sure a child has a new backpack and the supplies they need, we believe in Local Helping Local. We’re grateful to the organizations, volunteers and community members who make these programs possible.”
