At stops in Bangor and Portland today, independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler is expected to make his candidacy official.
The Portland Press Herald reported that Cutler was scheduled to hold a campaign kickoff event in Bangor this morning and in Portland shortly after noon.
The launch sets up a three-way race among Cutler, Republican incumbent Gov. Paul LePage and Democratic challenger U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud. The candidacy announcement comes on the heels of the release of Cutler’s book, titled “A State of Opportunity,” which criticizes standoffs between the two major political parties and stakes out issues similar to those Cutler campaigned on in his 2010 run for the Blaine House.
