A federal defense spending bill that received final congressional approval yesterday includes billions in funding that will benefit Bath Iron Works.
The budget sets aside $15.7 billion for the DDG-51 and DDG-1000 class destroyer programs, including $2.9 billion for two DDG-51 destroyers, one of which will be built in Bath, according to The Associated Press. Another $186.3 million will be funneled to completion costs for the DDG-1000 destroyer program, and BIW is scheduled to build all three destroyers in that class.
Construction has already begun on the first DDG-1000 destroyer.
