Despite initial setback, Dollar General eyes Thomaston

Franklin Land Associates LLC of Brentwood, Tenn., is giving it a second go and has submitted another application to town officials in Thomaston for the construction of a Dollar General store on Route 1, also known as Main Street, in the Knox County town.

But much like company’s’ February application for a Thomaston-based Dollar General, there are doubts that the layout of the store will meet the Thomaston green design guidelines, the Bangor Daily News reports.

William Wasson, the town’s code enforcement officer, told the BDN that retail buildings built perpendicular to Route 1 require landscaping to be in the front of the building with parking in the rear. Additionally, the entrance of the building needs to be from a side street, not facing the heavily-traveled throughway.

According to the BDN, currently the store’s plans have the entrance of the store on Route 1.

The Thomaston Planning Board is set to review the application on Tuesday night at Watts Hall in the town’s downtown, a short distance from the proposed site.
