Passadumkeag Windpark LLC is appealing the rejection of a permit for a 14-turbine wind power installation in Grand Falls Township.
The Bangor Daily News reported that landowner Penobscot Forest LLC has joined the appeal to the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, which found that wind turbines around Saponac Lake would have a negative effect on the scenic nature of the lake.
On other fronts, the paper reported, the DEP found the project met the majority of the department’s criteria for a wind project, including that it would not unreasonably harm the area wildlife habitat, interfere with natural water flow, violate any state water quality laws or cause flooding in the area.
The company and landowner argue that the DEP decision overstates the impact the project would have on the lakeside scenery.
The DEP’s board will hear the appeal on March 21. A time and place for that hearing has not been set.
